Web (Front End) Developer

At Five by Five, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting, exciting and challenging projects, from large, content-managed, international websites to engaging social apps and mashups with bespoke functionality for the likes of Activision, Sega and UKTV.

We’re looking for a talented Web / Front end Developer to join the Tech Team with demonstrable experience of writing robust, high quality, cross browser CSS and JavaScript code, and some familiarity with basic PHP programming.

You’ll have proven experience in:

  • Writing cross browser CSS to achieve complex designs
  • Writing native JavaScript code from scratch and experience of, but not reliant on, object-oriented JavaScript frameworks (YUI3, Prototype, etc.)
  • Writing clean, semantic markup, adhering to SEO best practice, use of HTML5 where appropriate.
  • Writing accessible applications using progressive enhancement and graceful degradation techniques.

For bonus points, you’ll have experience with:

  • HTML5 apis e.g. local storage, push state, geolocation
  • CSS3 animations, transitions etc
  • Canvas and SVG
  • SASS, Compass
  • Responsive design
  • Mobile website development
  • Writing your own reusable libraries and sharing them with the community
  • Object Oriented Design, Design Patterns
  • Consuming APIs, especially Facebook
  • Version control systems like Git and Subversion
  • Phonegap or Appcelerator Titanium
  • Writing simple PHP code in the presentation tier and perhaps the whole LAMP stack
  • Automated testing and documentation tools

At Five by Five we love it when a big idea comes to life for clients such as Activision, L’Oreal and UKTV. But who makes sure it all goes according to plan? That’ll be your team of producers. They’re smooth operators, calm under pressure and able to juggle multiple project-shaped balls. What they’ll need from you is guidance and support when things get a bit hairy and an oracle-like knowledge of everything from digital/social projects and traditional campaigns to video/photo shoots and large scale events. So, in addition to being that bit smoother, even calmer and a juggler of Russian circus standard, you’ll also bring bags of production and people management experience in the marcomms arena. Matched with outstanding client skills and an excellent understanding of technology, you’ll ensure that every plan comes together.
